Emily Rivas
Teaching Assistant, University of Toronto
Sexuality Studies 2016
During my time at York University, I was involved with the Undergraduate Sexuality Studies Association and the Centre for Human Rights. Both of these opportunities paved the way for engagement with the larger York University community. In my first year, I was a resident at Bethune College Residence. Being on campus allowed me to engage in university events and develop relationships with other students. I also worked at the on-campus restaurant, The Underground, and I met many of my long-term friends here.
The Sexuality Studies Program really prepared me to engage in complex social theories and research methodologies. These skills have been very helpful during my Master’s as I continue to engage in queer theory. My dedication to social justice was shaped during my undergrad and continues to guide all the work that I do at the University of Toronto and elsewhere.
