The Family Responsibility Office (FRO) is a program of the Government of Ontario that provides support to families by collecting, distributing, and enforcing child and spousal support payments. As a Case Management Officer at the FRO, I contribute to FRO's objective by managing client support issues and promote compliance with support obligations through effective management and resolution in accordance with legislation and policies. My role ranges from providing customer service, negotiating a payment arrangement, conducting investigations to understand a family's situation, and taking enforcement actions to help ensure support obligations are met.
Tell prospective students a bit about how your studies at York helped you to get where you are today.
The Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) program set the foundation for getting me to where I am today. From providing me with in-depth knowledge through a variety of courses to shaping my perspective in pursuing my goals and dreams, my education at York University has played a crucial role in paving the path to new opportunities. The BPA program, specifically the specialization in law, justice & public policy, equipped me with comprehensive knowledge of government administration, decision-making and formulation of public policy. It not only helps prepare for the public sector, but also provides opportunities to gain hands-on experience that makes transition easy from a fresh graduate to a devoted public servant. The fourth year Practicum in Public Administration course (AP/PPAS 4995 6.0) helped me set my foot in the public sector as a Research Assistant Intern at the Ministry of Children, Community & Social Services at the Business Intelligence and Practice Division. I was further able to secure a summer student position at the Government of Ontario owing to my skills and volunteer experience equipped throughout the BPA program and placement opportunity. I also developed meaningful connections and valuable skills through volunteer opportunities at the School of Public Policy and Administration (SPPA). The BPA program has significantly helped me develop the knowledge and skills essential to being successful as a public sector employee. If you are someone who is passionate about public policy, government decision-making and delivering public programs, then BPA program at York is the perfect fit for you.
