Meghan Sullivan
A/Business Expertise Advisor, Service Canada
Graduate Program in Public Policy, Administration & Law, Master of Public Policy, Administration and Law (MPPAL) 2015
After completing a BA in Political Science from Western, Meghan enrolled in Humber's graduate certificate program in public administration. This gave her access to her current employer, Service Canada, where she started working in 2009. As a Citizen Services Officer, Meghan helped Canadians access their federal benefits. After graduating from MPPAL, she was able to advance her career as a Service Canada Benefits Officer working on complex Old Age Security files. After reviewing her resume, Meghan was chosen to work exclusively in the Appeals Unit. Currently, she is in an acting role as a Business Expertise Advisor for Pensions.
The competencies I gained from MPPAL helped me gain a better understanding of the principles of administrative law that I needed to excel in my current role. This also gave me the opportunity to write submissions on behalf of the Minister, which are then reviewed by an independent Tribunal. Being able to effectively use case law and interpret legislation to write effective arguments was a valuable skill that helped me to advance my career. I am now considered a specialist and my acting role includes advising and training new processors on how to interpret legislation and make good decisions.
