Law & Society

Renata George is a passionate creative with over 20 years of experience working in media, the financial industry and the corporation sector. She is an honours double major Bachelor of Arts graduate with a degree in Communication Studies and Law & Society. Renata is a strong advocate for mentoring because she noticed early on in her career that the number of women and people of colour in leadership roles was minimal. She believes in the power of sharing personal experiences and empowering others as you rise to ensure the door always remains open.

Renata credits her teachers during her time at York for transforming her way of thinking and ultimately impacting how she navigated her career in media. Renata is currently the Creative Operations Manager at Paramount Global supporting streaming platforms Paramount+ and Pluto TV. Within her role, she is a trusted business partner collaborating and maintaining cross-functional relationships with global teams ensuring creative solutions align with identified product & service marketing strategies and priorities.

Renata has worked previously at Rogers Communications and Royal Bank of Canada. She is also a Public Relations graduate from Humber College.

In her downtime, Renata is an avid lover of DIYs and 80s sitcoms

I came to York as a graduate from another institution; however, I felt like I was missing something. I found my time at York drastically, transformed my outlook on life and the trajectory of my career. Starting my career in media wasn’t easy as I didn’t have anyone willing to show me the ropes. It is so important to have allies and mentors when you are a woman or person of colour in media as you can learn from the achievements and mistakes of those before you. Representation matters. To increase representation in this industry, you have to be willing to lift as you climb.
