Robyn Hadder
Teacher, Durham District School Board
Sociology, Bachelor of Arts (BA) 2007
My decision to take a general arts degree in the area of Sociology came from a strong desire for continued education. At that point, I did not know that I wanted to be a teacher, nor had any clue what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. All I knew was that I loved learning and didn't want to take a break from education. I think that anyone who is unsure about what they'd like to do, but also wanting to keep their options open, should take a general arts degree. This will allow you time to figure out what you'd like to do, but at the same time securing a diploma in the end.
Education at York gave me so many valuable skills to be a successful teacher. Going through the motions of not knowing what I wanted to do when I grew up, but yet seeking higher education at the same time was the best decision I have ever made. Who knows where I would be today if it wasn't for me pushing myself to keep going to school?
