AP/ANTH 4450 3.00 Anthropology of the City

As a vast assemblage of humans and non-humans, the city presents unique theoretical and methodological challenges for anthropology. This course introduces students to the theoretical frameworks and methodological tools used by anthropologists through experiential activities and critical readings of ethnographic case studies from both the Global North and South. Topics include urban segregation, informality, poverty, immigration, migration, urban planning, renewal, and dissent.
