As a 4th year student and CMDSA President, my Communication and Media Studies degree continues to equip me with the skills and insights needed to succeed in a career dedicated to supporting artists and amplifying marginalized voices. I am building a strong foundation as an aspiring Brand Strategist and Entertainment Law Advocate. Through compelling coursework and hands-on experience, I’ve learned how to craft messages that resonate and use media as a tool for social change.
This degree is also sharpening my analytical abilities, helping me to understand how complex media, cultural, and political landscapes impact visibility and access for underrepresented artists. By studying diverse communication frameworks and exploring matters of media ethics, I am better prepared to navigate the many intersections of art, youth advocacy, and intellectual property rights. With future goals of establishing an art collective for creative youths aged 10-20, my degree is equipping me to support these artists creatively and strategically, encouraging them to thrive in a competitive industry.

Compared to other degrees that may emphasize teaching "how," the CMDS degree focuses more on the "why." In today's society, it's crucial for an individual not only to know how something works but also to understand why—why we make certain decisions, why we launch specific campaigns, and why certain products are profitable, etc. While the CMDS degree has equipped me with the ability to think critically about these underlying reasons. It has allowed me to craft more compelling narratives by organizing information effectively, building solid arguments, and convincing audiences with a deeper understanding of the purpose behind each decision.
