Position Title: Digital Communications Intern

Job Description:
As a member of the HLV program, the Digital Communications Intern contributes to building the program’s reputation as Canada’s urban angel and a progressive leader in the treatment of heart disease, vascular and respiratory conditions, along with research and education that impact patient care. This role will work closely with Unity Health Toronto’s communications team as directed by the Senior Communications Advisor, ensuring strict adherence to relevant corporate policies.
One placement student will focus primarily on social media content within the program, while the other will target creating digital video-based content for patient education. Primary responsibilities for these positions include:
- Supporting corporate communications media relations activities, including providing support around media relation projects and strategy for new and/or existing initiatives, etc.;
- Assisting with interviewing physicians, staff, and patients to develop and share stories depicting the work being done in the program;
- Performing special projects responsibilities;
- Supporting corporate communications objectives and programs, as requested and/or required.
- Learn and apply the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) standards to ensure all communications materials are inclusive and accessible
- Collaborate with staff across various departments, engaging with multiple levels of the organization to gather information and complete project requirements as applicable.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree program in Digital Communications and Media Studies, or recognized equivalent required.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Excellent organization and time management skills required.
- Must demonstrate sensitivity, confidentiality, tact and diplomacy required.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet project deadlines required.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of an integrated communications team required.
- Digitally literate with knowledge of digital tools and solutions an asset.
- Experience with email marketing, social media platforms and monitoring, Google Analytics, website maintenance, graphic design, and digital analytics an asset.
- Experience working with Office 365, PowerPoint, and Canva to create digital content an asset.
- Experience with analytical and strategic planning an asset.
Additional Assets:
Production platforms used will include but are not limited to, Office 365, PowerPoint, and Canva.
Ideally, one student will focus on social media, while the other will concentrate on digital video content for patient education. Both students will have the opportunity to assist in each other’s areas and gain a well-rounded understanding of the work a communications team does in a hospital setting.
