Emily Merson (on Research Leave)
Emily Merson holds a PhD in Political Science from York University. She is the author of ‘Creative Presence: Settler Colonialism, Indigenous Self-Determination and Decolonial Contemporary Artwork’ (2020) published by the Rowman & Littlefield book series Kilombo: International Relations and Colonial Questions. She is the Editor of ‘The Art of Global Power: Artwork and Popular Cultures as World-Making Practices’ (2020) published by the Routledge Popular Culture and World Politics book series. Her current research project on climate justice and speculative fiction draws on archival research of Octavia E. Butler’s papers at The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens in California. She is writing the book manuscript ‘Out of This World: Speculative Writing, Decolonial Feminist Reading and Climate Justice’, which is under contract with UBC Press.
