With several rooms available for drop-ins and/or reservations, we encourage you to take advantage.

Looking for the premier place to study at Founders? Then the Junior Common Room (JCR) is the place for you. Located on the College’s Courtyard Level, this large, quiet and casual space is filled with comfortable places to sit alone or in groups.

Location: Courtyard level

Bright! Attractive! Inspiring! All words to describe the Arthur Haberman Room, used by the College to plan and host poetry readings, music nights and art exhibitions. Open for students to study. See room schedule posted outside of the room.

A hidden gem on campus, The Nellie, affiliated with the School of Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies, welcomes all students and members of the York community to our quiet, scent-free and safe study space.

Warm and inclusive, The Nellie encourages everyone to drop by, borrow books, study, read, relax, use the public computers, make copies (cash only), learn about student resources, or participate in our library events. Food and beverages are permitted.

Location: Courtyard level

Renovated in 2020, 002 Atkinson is New College’s newest study space on campus. Located in the basement of the Atkinson building with a beautiful large window view of the campus grounds, it’s the perfect quiet space to study and do homework in between classes.

Located in 107 Atkinson, New College students can take a break from your studies to chat with other students, hang out and relax, or just find a quiet corner to read.


Vanier College Student Lounge

Student space to relax in between classes – equipped with a TV, Nintendo Wii and a billiards table. Everyone is welcome to come and hang out!


McLaughlin Courtyard

McLaughlin College

A unique feature of McLaughlin College is its Courtyard, located in the very centre of the College itself. The Courtyard features a lovely garden of trees, scrubs, bushes, and flowers, along with benches and a walkway. This special open College space can be used by students, faculty, staff, alumni, and Fellows to enjoy a pleasant quiet setting at the very heart of the College.


Fellows Garden

McLaughlin College

Our Fellows Garden is located outside the northwest end of the College grounds. It is a quiet space that is below the pathway next to Founders College that leads to the York University tennis courts and the front entrances to the College. A sheltered green space that is surrounded on one side by shrubs and flowers with picnic tables to allow an opportunity, the weather permitting, to enjoy your lunch, to read, to study outdoors, or simply to meet and chat with friends. This outdoor space can also be used for receptions, barbecues, and other social events and gatherings.
