Engagement Volunteers
Upper-year students are actively involved as engagement volunteers. They facilitate various activities that ensure that first-year students have ample opportunities to make new friends and feel welcomed.
Accessibility Support
Dedicated accessibility support volunteers are available to assist individuals with unique needs. These volunteers will help with navigating accessible doors, ramps, elevators, and low-sensory spaces, ensuring that all students can participate fully in Orientation.
Multilingual Support
Multilingual staff are available to assist students in various languages. They provide support to ensure that all students, regardless of their language background, can fully engage with and enjoy the orientation activities.
Suggestions for Parents & Caregivers
While first-year students are participating in Orientation, there are several enjoyable and relaxing options for you to explore on or around campus:
- Take a guided or self-guided tour of the campus to familiarize yourself with the environment where they will be spending their time. Use the 3D map to explore!
- Browse through the bookstore to find York University merchandise, books, and supplies they might need for the upcoming semester.
- Spend time in the York University Arboretum, a peaceful green space perfect for a relaxing walk or a quiet moment of reflection.
- Enjoy a coffee or a meal at one of the campus cafés or nearby eateries. It’s a great way to relax and get a feel for the university’s community atmosphere.
- Visit nearby attractions such as Black Creek Pioneer Village, a living history museum that offers a glimpse into the region’s past.
- Head to Yorkdale Shopping Centre, one of the premier shopping destinations in Toronto, located a short drive or subway ride from the campus.
- Explore local parks like Downsview Park, which offers green spaces, walking trails, and recreational activities.
