Equity in the Workplace: Labour Rights and Human Rights

This course uses a critical human rights approach to examine initiatives to promote equity in the workplace. The course explores public policy strategies to address intersectional inequalities and assesses efforts to establish equitable labour standards and occupational health and safety as fundamental human rights.

Equity in the workplace addresses inequalities for race, gender, class, sexuality, disability, age, and citizenship. One of our focus during this course will be to hear the voices of the workers as they explore their work world and the management of work. As a Human Rights course, we will look into the area of rights, key players, and Unconscious Bias. Becoming more inclusive is considering the power dynamics inside the workplace. This course helps you identify discriminatory barriers and how to work collaboratively to find solutions that foster an environment that supports the principles of equity. You will also learn to recognize and critically reflect upon one’s own cultural biases.
