What Do They Know?: Youth, Crime and Culture
Livy Visano
2006What Do They Know? is a comprehensive, contemporary, and controversial discussion of the differential impact of culture on youth crime. This book develops an innovative and interdisciplinary approach to the definitional and conceptual issues of youth crime. Written by a recognized critical criminologist, the book highlights the roles played by ideologies-capitalism, modernity, and liberalism-and institutions-media, law, and education-in shaping youth identity. The claim that youth crime serves the interests of capitalism will certainly stimulate debates regarding the relationship between crime and culture.
