This prestigious award is a well-deserved and important recognition of Maria’s passion as a teacher and mentor. Her teaching strategies foster intellectual growth and challenge students to achieve a higher level of critical thought and analytical writing. In DLLL and at York University in general, Maria has spearheaded several co-curricular activities, including the arrangement of a tutoring group, the establishment of a trilingual journal to publish student work in Spanish or Portuguese with English translation, and the Pan Am games “Poet-Tree” project.
