Akiko Mitsui has taught at York University since 2013. She received her PhD in Second Language Acquisition from Carnegie Mellon University. She also has a BA from Waseda University, an MA from Nagoya University and an MEd from the University of Pittsburgh. She has taught Japanese at universities in Japan, the USA and Canada. She designed and implemented the Japanese intensive immersion program at the Glendon Summer Language Institute. Her research interests include Japanese-as-a-second/foreign-language education, in particular language teacher education, content-based instruction, and second language writing. She is also an advocator and a practitioner of raising children in one’s own language.
