Themistoklis Aravossitas

Dr. Themistoklis Aravossitas teaches Modern Greek Language and Culture. He holds a B.Ed. from the University of Athens, an MA and a PhD from the Department of Curriculum Teaching and Learning at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. His dissertation entitled “The Hidden Schools”, explored Greek heritage language education in Canada. Themistoklis has completed a SSHRC post-doctoral fellowship at the University of the Aegean, designing online learning media to support teaching and learning Greek as a community language. His current research focuses on Curriculum and Teacher Professional Development in the context of Greek Language Education in North America. His publications include five edited books: Rethinking Heritage Language Education (Cambridge University Press, 2014); Handbook of Research and Practice in Heritage Language Education (Springer, 2017); Interdisciplinary Research Approaches to Multilingual Education (Routledge, 2018); Language Diversity and Education Matters (In Greek, Gutenberg, 2019); Language Diversity in Greece: Local Challenges with International Implications (Springer, 2020).
