Korean Immigrant Experience and Culture

This course explores the experiences of Korean immigrants and Korean culture in Canada and beyond in terms of two major themes: 1) immigration and the adaptation process and 2) multiplicity of ethnic and cultural identity. It examines the different theoretical and methodological approaches to studying the Korean immigrant experience and Korean culture in transnational contexts. This course explores the ways in which ethnic and cultural identities are interrelated with language, gender, class, religion, sexuality and generation. The course discussions and analyses will include topics such as Korean diaspora; ethnicity and belonging; and language and identity.
