ELIGIBILITY
The Certificate is open to students who have been granted a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade point average of 5.0 (C+) or equivalent. Applicants may be required to demonstrate English language proficiency (minimum IELTS 7 across all skills; TOEFL 102 total). Individuals holding a Bachelor’s degree can be exempted from a maximum of 12 of the required 27 credits provided they have taken equivalent courses during their undergraduate/graduate education. Exemptions will not be given for the following courses: AP/TESL 3600 3.0, AP/TESL 3200 6.0, and AP/TESL 3300 6.0.
Current York undergraduate students are eligible to apply for admission to the Certificate if they have completed at least 24 credits with a minimum grade point average of 5.0 (C+). In order to be awarded the certificate, students must successfully complete a Bachelors degree (90 credits) or an Honours Bachelor Degree (120 credits). Fifteen (15) of the 27 credits required for the Certificate will be counted towards the Bachelors (or Honours Bachelor) degree. Twelve (12) credits will be counted outside the degree: AP/TESL 3200 6.0, and AP/TESL 3300 6.0.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
For external applicants, before applying for admission to York University, please complete and submit the Supplementary Application – STEP 1. The Supplementary Application will be reviewed and you will be advised whether or not to proceed to STEP 2 – the York University Admissions Application.
Continuing York University undergraduate students seeking to apply to a concurrent TESOL certificate are only required to complete STEP 1.
