Scholarships & Awards

We want to recognize your academic success and provide a financial boost to those who need it. This is not just a hand out – it’s a hand up. Scholarships, awards and bursaries enhance your resume and university transcript.


Annie Kaplansky Award

Available to economics majors at Keele campus who have completed their first year of study (at least 30 credits). A minimum GPA of “B” (6.0) is required in their first 30 credits. Recipients must be Canadian citizens/permanent residents, or protected persons, residents of Ontario and demonstrate financial need. Students must complete a Student Financial Profile by the Fall deadline.


John Robinson Award in Economics

Available to economics undergrads with at least 48 credits and minimum cumulative grade point average of “B” (6.00). Preference may be given to a student enrolled in the public finance course. Recipients must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons, residents of Ontario and demonstrate financial need. Submit a Student Financial Profile to be considered.


George Doxey Award

Award to economic students at Keele campus. Recipients must be Canadian citizens/permanent residence or protected persons, residents of Ontario and demonstrate financial need. Submit a Student Financial Profile by the Fall published deadline to be considered.


Edward A. Beder Memorial Scholarship

Two scholarships available to economics and political science students. Both students must be entering the third or fourth year of their program. Complete a Student Financial Profile by the Fall published deadline to be considered.


Stanley L. Warner Memorial Prize

Awarded to the student submitting the best essay as part of economics writing requirements. Application not required.


Chris Sloan Prize

Awarded based on academic achievement and contribution to the Department of Economics. Open to both undergrad and grad students. Please note that the prize may not be awarded every year.


William Jaffe Book Prize

Awarded to an economics major who has achieved the highest standing in a 3000-level and 4000-level writing-intensive ECON course.


William Pearson Scott Scholarship

Awarded annually to an outstanding student in economics or political science who is entering either the fourth year of an honours program or the first year of a graduate program (application not required).


Tait Montague Book Prize

Awarded each year to the economics student who has achieved the highest standing in the Economics 1000 3.0/1010 3.0 Principles courses (application not required).


Malcom Streete Bursary

This award is given to a student entering the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies from Oakwood Collegiate High School or a high school in Jane-Finch or Regent Park communities. Requirements include enrolment in at least 24 credits, financial need, community involvement and a declared interest in studying in the social sciences. Recipients must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons, residents of Ontario. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated involved in the African or Caribbean community.


Ron Bordessa Prize

Awarded to a Liberal Arts & Professional Studies student with the best academic performance among those who have completed at least 36 credits with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 7.0 (B+) and who is majoring in the social sciences: political science, sociology, interdisciplinary social science, race, ethnicity and Indigeneity, social work or economics.


Tony Elias Jr., B.A. Memorial Award

Awarded to a student pursuing a Bachelor Arts with a major in economics. Applicants must be enrolled in third year and beyond, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 6.0 (B), be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons, be Ontario residents and be in financial need. A student may only receive this award once.
