My research focuses on early modern literature, especially Renaissance drama. My dissertation, “Properties of Desire: Performing Women on the Early Modern Transvestite Stage,” explored how stage properties contribute to the enterprise of depicting the desires of women on the early modern English public stage. I am currently working on a book about stage props that thinks about what kinds of stage matter stage props are and how they are called into being. It looks at what happens when stage props don’t appear to function in the ways scripted for them. I continue to work in collaboration with Professor Deanne Williams, recovering and documenting evidence of medieval and early modern girls in dramatic performances from many different sources.
