James D. Papoutsis (Ph.D., English, York) specializes in contemporary literature, American literature, and popular culture including film, comics, and graphic novels. He is currently researching the influence of Bollywood on the development of the Greek film industry and has recently presented conference papers on fantasy and the contemporary gothic.
He is also a creative practitioner who is currently at work on fiction about the Greek diaspora that has been supported by a grant from the Canada Council for The Arts and a York CUPE research leave. Past creative work includes writing and dramaturgical work as part of an experimental theatre collective and the co-creation of Play Invisible, an audio-based experiential theatre project that was featured in the 2014 Festival of Original Theatre at The University of Toronto’s Centre for Drama, Theatre, and Performance Studies.
