Nemanja Protic holds a Ph.D. in English from York University. He specializes in contemporary literature and literary and cultural theory, with a focus on aesthetics and visual texts and culture. His teaching interests are rooted in attempts to understand the politics of art and the way literature participates in broad cultural patterns represented by notions such as modernity, community, and hegemony. His dissertation examined the poetics and politics of the grotesque, and his work has been published in Literature/Film Quarterly (for which he won the Thomas Erskine Award), Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics, and Cultural Critique. At York, he has taught courses on literary theory, comics and cartoons, the small town, and the fantastic. His current research focuses on the philosophical, aesthetic, and political dimensions of horror. He is completing his first collection of short stories, focused on small moments of life in a big city.
