Olivia De Sanctis
Olivia De Sanctis is a first-year Ph.D. student and teaching assistant at York University. Olivia completed both her Honours B.A. and M.A. here at York University and loves the campus along with its community. In addition, she is the current Layout Editor and Website Administrator for Pivot, A Journal of Interdisciplinary Thought. Her research interests include modern and contemporary poetry, particularly avant-garde and experimental work. She is especially interested in the intersections between literature and the visual arts, the role of medium in relation to poetry, and how poetry exists in physical space. During her M.A. degree, she completed a Major Research Paper titled “The Poetics of Filling Space: Understanding Experimentation with Material Forms in the Poetry of Bruce Nauman, Steve McCaffery and derek beaulieu” under the supervision of Dr. Andy Weaver. The project investigates the ways in which material elements of poetry are used to reimagine the reading experience (which is considered in light of Michel Foucault’s notion of the book as an experience), along with the ways in which material elements of poetry respond to the social conditions of contemporary North America.
