Department of History congratulates Paul Lovejoy for winning one of the two
inaugural President’s Research Merit Awards, as announced yesterday and
reported in today’s Y-File (http://www.yorku.ca/yfile/archive/index.asp?Article=13595).
Paul’s work as Director of the Harriet Tubman Institute for Research on the Global
Migrations of African Peoples has, in the words of the former Dean of
Arts who nominated him, “revolutionized his field through the innovative
use of technology”. As we in the History Department all know, his
ground-breaking and wide-ranging research projects over many years have
enhanced York’s reputation as a major centre of historical research. He
will be honoured by the President at an Awards Ceremony on November 24
as part of York’s inaugural Research Month. We will all have a more
informal opportunity to congratulate him at the Harriet Tubman Institute
Open House on November 12.
