Department of History congratulates Alan Durston on the excellent news that the President has now accepted the unanimous recommendations of the History Department’s Adjudicating Committee and the Senate Review Committees that he be granted tenure and promotion to the rank of Associate Professor, effective July 1, 2010. This merely confirms what the Department has known for a long term, namely his active service record in the Department, his effectiveness as a knowledgeable and engaging teacher, and, in particular, the excellent quality of Alan’s publications, especially his monograph on Pastoral Quechua, a work well received in several leading journals. His recent highly-ranked SSHRC grant provides further evidence of the excellence of Alan’s work.
Department of History would also like to thank all colleagues and staff who worked so assiduously on the preparation of Alan’s tenure file and all colleagues and students who were involved in its adjudication.
It is, of course, no surprise to any of us in the Department, since we’ve all been fully aware for some time of his many accomplishments. Nonetheless, it is a moment to celebrate when everything is confirmed at the Presidential level. Please accept, Alan, the Department’s heartiest congratulations.
