Department of History congratulates Paul Lovejoy on this publication of his latest book. Crossing Memories: Slavery and African Diaspora, a volume of essays edited by Paul in collaboration with Mariana Candido (Princeton U.) and Ana Lucia Araujo (Howard University), has just appeared in The Harriet Tubman Series on the African Diaspora, published by Africa World Press (2011, 297 pp.)
This is how the Press describes the volume: “This volume examines the history and the memory of slavery in Africa and the Americas from the period of the transatlantic slave trade until the present day. Using diverse approaches and a myriad of sources, the contributors investigate how slavery has shaped the past and the present lives of African diaspora populations.”
In addition to an essay by Paul Lovejoy, it also includes chapters by Yacine Daddi Addoun, Mohammed Bashir Salau, who both gained their PhDs in History at York in 2010 and 2005 respectively, and by Nadine Hunt, a current PhD candidate.
