SSHRC grant for 2 MA students: Martins and Smolyansky

Department of History congratulates two of our current MA students who belatedly received SSHRC scholarships for their MAs: Michael Martins, who is working in the area of women in ancient Rome with Jonathan Edmondson, and Garry Smolyansky, who is working on Jewish immigrants to the GTA with Michael Brown. Both Garry and Michael did their BAs at York, so their awards reflect the high quality of training of our undergraduate program. It is also good to know that when SSHRC does find more money in their budget, they actually fund those candidates whom they rank as “recommended but not funded.” This is good news all round.

Congratulations to Garry and Michael on their windfalls.
