Professor William Jenkins appointed new Graduate Program Director in History

Dr. Jenkins, an associate professor of Geography and a member of the Graduate Program in History since 2008, has been appointed as new Graduate Program Director in History. A graduate of University College Dublin and the University of Toronto, his published work initially focused on social and economic transformations in nineteenth- and twentieth-century rural Ireland. Having since developed interests in comparative, transnational and diasporic histories, his research has concentrated on the lives and allegiances of Irish immigrants and their descendants in urban North America. His work has appeared in the Journal of Historical Geography, Immigrants and Minorities, and the Journal of Urban History, among other scholarly outlets. He was one of four authors of a multi-disciplinary volume on the history of the Boyne Valley region in eastern Ireland published by the Royal Irish Academy in 2008, and his most recent book, “Between Raid and Rebellion: the Irish in Buffalo and Toronto, 1867-1916” is scheduled for publication by McGill-Queen’s University Press in early 2013.

Professor Jenkins will be assuming the email address: dgshist@yorku.ca as of July 1, 2012.
