Elizabeth Cohen promoted to Full Professor

Today, Libby Cohen received an official letter from President Mamdouh Shoukri confirming his pleasure in accepting the recommendations of the Department’s Adjudicating Committee and the Senate Review Committee that she be promoted to Full Professor effective July 1, 2012.

President Shoukri commends Professor Cohen for her highly esteemed original scholarship and for her eminent reputation as a historian of early modern Italy; he praises her work as a mentor of younger scholars and as a knowledgeable and passionate teacher with high standards and a concern to assist students do their best work; and he expresses the university’s gratitude for the wide range of service she has undertaken in the Department and far beyond, lauding her professionalism and collegial leadership.

Many in the Department of History have been fully aware for many years of Libby’s substantial strengths as a scholar and colleague. It is fitting that they have now been officially recognized by the University with this promotion to Full Professor. On behalf of the Department, Libby, many congratulations on this wonderful news.

The Department of History would also like to thank the Department’s File Preparation committee and successive Tenure and Promotions Committees in 2010-11 and 2011-12 under the capable leadership of Doug Hay and Adrian Shubert for all the work they devoted to the preparation and adjudication of Libby’s promotion file.
