The Department of History offers congratulations and thanks to professors Craig Heron and Marcel Martel for the wonderful workshop they organized Nov. 1 on “Public History and the University” and the annual Avie Bennett Historica-Dominion Institute lecture by Prof. Alan Taylor on “Winning the Border:Settling the War of 1812”.
Superbly organized, the workshop’s lively discussions helped make valuable progress as the department moves towards a public history stream in our History programme. The Métis Fiddler Quartet added a splendid extra element to the day’s and evening’s events. Special thanks to Will Baker for the role he played in making the workshop such a success.
Between the two events it was a stimulating day involving a large number of York History graduate students, departmental faculty and many members of the wider historical community from the greater Toronto area.
