Dear members of the History Department,
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Bettina Bradbury’s book, Wife to Widow: Lives, Laws, and Politics in Nineteenth-Century Montreal (Vancouver: UBC Press, 2011) is shortlisted for the François-Xavier Garneau Medal, awarded every five years. This is the most prestigious of the CHA prizes and honours an outstanding Canadian contribution to historical research. The prize will be announced at the CHA Annual Meeting at the University of Ottawa on June 2 (http://www.cha-shc.ca/english/news/list-of-shortlisted-books-for-the-2015-garneau-macdonald-and-ferguson-prizes.htm#sthash.T4v0H9yR.RhwBSEh4.dpuf)
Also John Christopoulos, who recently completed a two-year postdoc in the Department, has won a fellowship for 2015-16 at Villa I Tatti, the Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies, in Florence. He will continue work on his second book project on “Bodies in Crime in Late Renaissance Rome.”
Finally, Y-File published an excellent description of Jonathan Edmondson’s new book, The Oxford Handbook of Roman Epigraphy. Here’s the link:(http://yfile.news.yorku.ca/2015/03/23/inscription-guide-lights-path-through-roman-world/)
Many congratulations,
Regards,
Marcel
