It gives me enormous pleasure to report that our colleague, Bettina Bradbury, has been awarded at the annual conference of the Canadian Historical Association (CHA) in Ottawa the François-Xavier Garneau Medal for her book Wife to Widow. Lives, Laws and Politics in 19th century Montreal (Vancouver: UBC Press, 2011) (http://www.ubcpress.ca/search/title_book.asp?BookID=299173224).
The François-Xavier Garneau Medal, awarded every five years, is the most prestigious of the CHA prizes. It honours an outstanding Canadian contribution to historical research.
You may recall that Bettina’s book received the Prix Lionel Groulx – Fondation Yves-Saint-Germain prize (Institut d’histoire de l’Amérique française) in 2012 and the 2012 Clio-Québec Prize awarded by the Canadian Historical Association.
