I’m very pleased to announce that Dr Jennifer Bonnell has accepted the Dean’s offer of a full-time appointment in Canadian History at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department commencing July 1, 2015.
Dr Jennifer Bonnell graduated with her PhD from the University of Toronto, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education in 2010. She previously held a SSHRC postdoctoral fellowship at University of Guelph (2011-13) and currently holds a teaching fellowship at the L.R. Wilson Institute for Canadian History at McMaster University. Last year, the University of Toronto Press published her dissertation as a book, Reclaiming the Don: An Environmental History of Toronto’s Don River Valley. Her book received the 2014 Clio Award (best book on the History of Ontario) and was shortlisted for the Canadian Historical Association Sir John A. Macdonald Prize for best book in Canadian history. She has also co-edited a new anthology on historical geographic information systems (HGIS) research in Canada with University of Calgary Press, and she has published several peer-reviewed book chapters and journal articles. Dr. Bonnell has worked in local Toronto museums and historical associations, served as an expert consultant for Parks Canada and Heritage Toronto and several documentary film productions, and led historical walking and biking tours in the city.
