The Department of History congratulates former doctoral student Dr. Jason Ellis (PhD 2011) for winning the Cathy James Memorial Dissertation Prize for the best thesis in the history of education over the past two years. The award was presented to Jason on Oct. 20 in Vancouver at the Biennial Conference of the Canadian History of Education Association. Jason’s thesis, “‘Backward and Brilliant Children’: A Social and Policy History of Disability, Childhood, and Education in Toronto’s Special Education Classes, 1910-1945”, was supervised by Paul Axelrod and defended in September 2011.
