Dear historians,
It is with great pleasure that I write to inform you that our colleague in Modern European history Deborah Neill last week received an official letter from President Mamdouh Shoukri confirming his pleasure in accepting the recommendations of the Department’s Adjudicating Committee and the Senate Review Committee that she be granted tenure and promoted to the rank of Associate Professor effective July 1, 2013.
President Shoukri praises Professor Neill for her scholarly reputation as a “rising star”, amply documented in her tenure and promotion file. He notes the unanimously strong praise from external reviewers for her book, Networks in Tropical Medicine and for her ongoing programme of research. He commends Professor Neill for the content and delivery of her courses and for her efforts to encourage her students’ success, all amply documented in her students’ eloquent appreciation of her efforts, and for her contributions to new course development. He also expresses the university’s gratitude for the willing and conscientious collegial service that she has undertaken since her arrival at York.
Those of us in the Department are fully aware of Deb’s wonderful range of strengths as a scholar, teacher and colleague. It is fitting that they have now been officially recognized by the University with this grant of tenure and promotion to Associate Professor. On behalf of the Department, Deb, many congratulations on this wonderful news!
I’m sure you’ll also wish to join me in thanking the Department’s File Preparation committee and Tenure and Promotions Adjudicating Committee, chaired by Adrian Shubert, for all the work they devoted to the preparation and adjudication of Deb’s tenure and promotion file.
All best wishes, Jonathan
