Calling all academics who like to find the joy–and hilarity–in their research!
Bright Club York is coming, and we’re looking for an enthusiastic bunch of scholars who focus on Canadian Studies to participate.
Bright Club is the thinking person’s comedy night, where academics shed the confines of their elbow-patched blazers and become stand-up comedians in order to bring their research to a diverse audience. It began as a new way to disseminate research at University College London and grown from there.
In January 2014, the Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies is bringing it to York, and we are looking for faculty members and graduate students who would be interested in participating in this event. While this may sound intimidating at first, it is an excellent way to share your work with a friendly, receptive, informal audience, and we will have training sessions to help you refine your routines leading up to the event. We will also have a talented MC on hand to warm up the crowd and keep things moving along at a great pace.
These will be 8-10 minute stand-up routines based on your research on Canada.
Jessica van Horssen, an Assistant Professor in the Department of History, took part in this event this summer at a conference in the UK. Here is her routine to give you an idea of some of the things you could do:
