It gives me enormous pleasure to convey the news that last week the Royal Society of Canada announced its list of new Fellows for 2016 and that our recently retired colleague Doug Hay was elected a Fellow in the Academy of Social Sciences.
This is further evidence of the very high regard in which Doug’s scholarship is held nationally and internationally. On behalf of the History Department, Doug, many congratulations!

Douglas Hay has made a unique contribution both to the legal historiography of England and its former colonies and, more broadly, to interdisciplinary socio-legal scholarship in Canada. He combines a comprehensive approach to source materials with innovative
methodology and a broad understanding of law’s relationship to society. A prolific scholar, enthusiastic collaborator and generous mentor, he has influenced countless colleagues, students and professional peers in both law and history.
Doug will be inducted at this year’s Royal Society of Canada meeting at Queen’s University on Fri 18 November.
