The History Department is very happy to welcome Dr. Abril Liberatori as the new Mariano A. Elia Chair in Italian-Canadian Studies at York University. She received her PhD in History from York University in 2017. A historian by training, her research focuses on the experiences of Italian Canadians in the post-Second World War period. She is particularly interested in ethnic identity formation, as well as gender, transnational, and oral history. She has published on topics such as language, memory, music, and food among Italian immigrants in North and South America. Dr. Liberatori also has experience in the public sector, having worked at the Office of the Ontario Ombudsman. She has taught courses on Canadian history, social history, and global history.
