It has been conveyed that the President has accepted the unanimous recommendations of the Department’s Adjudicating Committee and the Senate Review Committee that Marc Stein be promoted to the rank of Full Professor -retroactively effective July 1, 2011. In his letter, the President comments on the originality and importance of Marc’s scholarship, not least in that he is considered to have defined the field of lesbian and gay history. He also praises Marc’s fine teaching and his challenging but supportive role as supervisor and mentor and commends him for his committed leadership in academic administration and collegial governance. We in the Department have known all this for many years, but it is good to have it reaffirmed through the promotion process.
