Young Muslim Women in India: Bollywood, Identity and Changing Youth CultureKabita Chakraborty’s book was launched at the York Centre for Asian Research (YCAR) in January 2016. Her book explores changing youth culture in the urban slums of Kolkata, tracking the journey of several key informants, as they make the transition from girls to young women. The book actively tackles dominant discourses about slum youth as poor victims who are excluded from social change by showcasing young people’s own ambitions, desires and transgressions in a globalizing India. For more information please see YFile article.
