GRIOTS TO EMCEES: SPOKEN WORD, CULTURE & PERFORMANCE is a course that explores the past/present/future of Diasporic oral culture – from ancient storytellers to spoken word artists, rap, dub, slam, lyricism, and performance poetry – as well as the socio-political, historical & cultural contexts that inspire & amplify artists’ voices on stage, page, in theatre, mixtape, digital media and more.
