Gordon Anderson
I am the current Program Coordinator for East Asian Studies. My teaching focuses on East Asian culture, literature & film, philosophy and religions. My primary research interest is exploring Self, Sensuality and Transcendence in late traditional/early modern Chinese literature. Chinese-to-English translation is also a passion of mine. I particularly enjoy reading the original—thinking about it, savouring it—and rendering it into an English translation that manages to capture, as best as possible, the nuances of language and cultural understanding. I love being in East Asia, spending time with old friends and exploring the new. Music is important: I play the electric bass, steel-string guitar and the Chinese “zither” (guqin).
