Contemporary Canadian Childhood and the Law

Explores childhood experience and the social construction of childhood in Canadian law. Students will examine the social policies that inform the law, consider how children experience the law through popular culture and direct contact with the legal system, and explore the current state of “children’s rights,” asking what reforms would empower children, making childhood an autonomous legal category.
