Fees & Funding

Academic fees are charged on either a per-course or per-program basis, depending on the Faculty or program in which you enrol, and include tuition costs as well as supplementary fees. Course and program fees are subject to approval by York’s Board of Governors in accordance with the tuition framework guidelines set by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and are subject to change.

Foundation Program

Students in the Foundation Program are eligible for course fee waivers for credit courses and access language support, group career coaching and two Foundations courses all at no cost in the Fall Term.

After completing the Foundation program, you can take an additional fAfter completing the Foundation program, you can take an additional fee-paying course in your professional field at your own cost. To cover the fee for the optional Specialized course you may apply for loans from our community partner microloan programs or if successful in Fall term classes may be eligible for IEP Student Success award.

Funding Options

IEP Students can also apply for micro-credit loans designed for Immigrants and Refugees returning to education through the Windmill Microlending or Achev. This can help with fee or areas not covered by the program such as textbook purchases, transportation, living costs and the non-refundable application fee.

Certificate Program

The Certificate program course fees are currently paid in three installments over the 16-month period and only beginning five months after the start of the program. You should budget approximately $4,400 to cover your course fees if you are unable to get a bursary (see below).

Jumpstart to Success, the first program course is offered free of charge. Currently, 100% of the fees for the bridging program’s first 2 Foundations courses are subsidized by the University, students then only pay regular domestic tuition fees for the remaining 6 Certificate courses (or 18 credits). 

Additionally, weekly English language support classes and ongoing job search support events are provided at no cost. Students in the program gain access to York University’s services, libraries, career centre and receive free job search support in areas including career coaching, alumni mentoring, networking,  employment workshops, etc.

Funding Options

After acceptance to the program certificate students can then apply to receive the Ontario Bridging Participant Assistance Program (OBPAP) if they can demonstrate financial need.

OBPAP is a bursary from the Government of Ontario of up to $5,000 provided to students in bridge training who demonstrate financial need with assistance to pay their course fees (note the availability of this bursary and a student’s qualification for it are guaranteed). If available from the Government of Ontario, IEP students will receive notification from our office, and encouraged to apply through York University’s Financial Services. We will aim to provide you with an assessment regarding your bursary eligibility before the fee payments are required.

NOTE

Important Financial and Fee Refund Deadlines

Information in this section applies only to your optional specialized course, and to dropped, withdrawn or failed Foundations & specialized courses.

Should you decide to drop any courses or decide to withdraw from the program, it is highly advised to do so before having to deal with financial penalties. Review the Refund Table for more information.

If you have paid fees for a specialized course, but withdraw before refund table deadlines, you can request a refund on all or a percentage of the fees remaining in your account.  

You can also apply for a Financial Petition if you had to drop a course for a legitimate reason past the refund deadline (if your withdrawal relates to a serious documented medical illness or a death of an immediate family member).
