Upon my arrival in Canada, my goal was to secure a position as a Financial Analyst in Canada. Before my arrival, I had years of experience as a professional Accountant in my home country. I was confident that I could achieve my professional goals in Canada. However, I attended several interviews and had trouble getting offers because I did not have any Canadian education/experience. I did my research and found out about York University’s IEP Bridging Program. During my time as an IEP student, I find that the curriculum is very detailed. The courses at York gave me a better understanding of the Canadian workplace culture. Both the academic and non-academic staff at York University helped provide the necessary resources in securing and succeeding on the job. For example, the networking events have helped me in expanding my professional network in Canada. With the positive results I have achieved from experience in the program, I managed to secure permanent employment as a Senior Financial Analyst at Canadian Red Cross.
