After arriving in Canada, Etienne Mbuyi Mbuyi enrolled on the IEP Certificate program to improve his prospects in the local labour market.“I joined the IEP program in order to increase the chance of getting a better job based on my previous experience and background,” he explained.

Describing the positive results he achieved while in the program Etienne said he improved “communication skills, both in writing and speaking”. These new skills he gained had a real impact on his career, “After joining the program, I improved my presentation skills and report writing and I got promoted to the position of Underwriting Manager at Goeasy Ltd”, he said.  

The bridging program also supported Mbuyi Mbuyi to grow his professional network and connect to successful alumni, “I was encouraged to continue with the IEP program when I heard the success stories from the IEP alumni, I decided to connect with some of them and got to benefit from their professional experience”.    Gaining access to free career coaching delivered through Randstad RiseSmart for IEP students was another support he gained and  helped him to strengthen his job search strategies, “I attended various workshops for job hunters, and I worked closely with a career coach who helped me to prepare for my current position, prepare an attractive resume, prepare for interview.”

When asked what advice she would give to other newcomers who are looking for employment in Canada, he emphasized, “I would advise them to join the IEP program because it will help boost their chance of getting into the Canadian professional labour market, build the network and getting to know other professional immigrants who have successfully integrated the Canadian professional world”.
