Accounting

Senior Financial Analyst
REF Automation Ltd.

When Md Jubayed Rahman arrived in Canada, he brought with him strong expertise as a Senior Financial Analyst, despite his qualifications he quickly realized that breaking into the Canadian job market presented a unique set of challenges.

“I joined the IEP program because I thought it would help me gain the technical knowledge required to get jobs in Canada and allow me to network with potential employers,” Rahman says. “The main challenge in finding employment was my lack of experience in Canadian workplace.”

Gaining an Edge in the Market
Rahman understood that success in Canada required more than just prior experience. The IEP Program provided him with insights into Canadian-specific standards such as tax laws, ASPE, and IFRS.

“I have gained knowledge about Canadian tax and accounting standards, which has put me in a better position to pursue more opportunities in the job market”, he explains.

“Through the program, I improved my communication skills, landed an interview, and met many interesting people,” he shares.

Building Connections
The IEP Program gave Rahman opportunities to meet professionals and peers, broadening his network and opening doors.

“I was able to connect with classmates who were in the same field,” he notes. “Through the program, I was invited to many events related to my field and met people from my profession.”

“The knowledge and skills I developed while participating in the program remain a vital foundational block in my career in Canada. The beautiful memories I made, and the wonderful people I met through the program motivate and encourage me to continue my professional and personal journey” he shared.

A New Chapter
Rahman’s efforts paid off when he secured his role as a Senior Financial Analyst at REF Automation Ltd. in June 2023.

“To get the job, you need to convince potential employers that you have the capacity to solve their problems. The program helped me develop the essential communication skills required to present myself to employers and Canada-specific technical knowledge, which made me stand out among other job seekers.”

Advice for Newcomers
Rahman’s words of wisdom: “Focus on improving your communication skills and meeting with people in your profession. It is a good idea to participate in a workshop on Canadian job search and recruitment process and culture.” Networking is also key, and he suggests, “when trying to network, focus on connecting with people in your profession and position yourself as a specialist rather than a generalist”.
