DARE Project: Apologies and Commemoration in Canada
Program(s) of Study: Human Rights & Equity Studies and Sexuality Studies
Project Supervisor: Maggie Quirt

As a third-generation Japanese Canadian, the war had a lasting impact on my family as both my grandparents were affected by the internment. While doing my research, it showcased the importance of apologies and how redress is important to help move a nation forward. Therefore, I hope my research will help indicate the importance of remembering the past and how it’s never too late to commemorate past human rights abuses and injustices.

The Dean’s Award for Research Excellence (DARE) – Undergraduate enables our students to meaningfully engage in research projects supervised by LA&PS faculty members. Find out more about DARE.
