DARE Project: Black Joy
Program(s) of Study: International Development Studies
Project Supervisor: Jessica Braimoh

I hope this research will shed a light on the systematic challenges racialized youth experience while exiting the child welfare system.

Project Description:

The Black Joy research project endeavors to collaborate with the OCAC (Ontario Children’s Advancement Coalition) to explore and expose the nuanced dynamics of colourism and anti-Black racism within the child welfare system and the pervasive affects racialized child welfare youth experience leaving the child welfare system. This initiative aims to shed light on the lived experiences of individuals affected by these issues, contributing to valuable insights that can inform and guide efforts to address and rectify systemic challenges.

The Dean’s Award for Research Excellence (DARE) – Undergraduate enables our students to meaningfully engage in research projects supervised by LA&PS faculty members. Find out more about DARE.
