Through my research on creativity (its origins, its academic associations, and the theories behind it), I hope to elucidate both the means of and the reasons for the necessity of creativity in Translation Studies and other academic disciplines.
Project Description:
Creativity in the field of Translation Studies extends not only to the translator as creative writer, but to the final translated product, and to the varied reception and interpretations that the translation provokes. Creativity is not confined to literary contexts. Creativity is of rising interest in areas as different as sciences, business, and the arts and is becoming a separate discipline, Creativity Studies. This research will examine both within the Translation Studies context and beyond how creativity has been defined and what processes have been identified to foster creativity. More specifically, the goals of the project are threefold: 1) to compile an up-to-date bibliography of research on creativity in Translation Studies, for the period 2000 to the present; 2) to compile a more general bibliography of the principal writings on creativity in other disciplines for the same period; and 3) to identify university programs or courses offered on creativity in Canada.The Dean’s Award for Research Excellence (DARE) – Undergraduate enables our students to meaningfully engage in research projects supervised by LA&PS faculty members.
